February 6, 2013 The board of the new Florida Polytechnic University voted this week to ask lawmakers for $25 million to finish construction of its first building. The Ledger of Lakeland reported that the board also heard at a retreat on Tuesday in Orlando that it is likely to take three or four years to obtain accrediting, if student enrollment were to begin in fall 2014. The board has recurring operational money, but board members said they wanted to use that to ensure the creation of academic programs if money can be found to complete construction of the science and technology building. The egg-shaped classroom, lab and office building designed by Santiago Calatrava is already under construction. -END- 2/6/13 Independent and Indispensable http://www.newsserviceflorida.com |
